EF-1 Tornado Causes Widespread Damage and Loss of Life
At Least 5 Dead, Several Injured as Storm System Batters Region
Houston, TX - Video footage has emerged of a deadly tornado tearing through a suburb of Houston, Texas, on Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service (NWS) has confirmed that the damage was caused by an EF-1 tornado, with winds reaching up to 110 miles per hour.
According to the NWS Houston-Galveston office, the tornado struck the suburb of Deer Park at around 7:00 AM. Strong winds downed power lines, spread debris, and uprooted trees, causing widespread damage to homes and businesses.
Houston Mayor John Whitmire said that the tornado left at least 5 people dead and several others injured. Rescue crews are currently searching for survivors and assessing the extent of the damage.
The NWS has issued a tornado watch for the Houston region, as the storm system continues to produce severe weather. Residents are urged to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.
